The BYOD story began in 2014 when Michelle and her Shetland Sheepdog, Lily, were asked to leave a patio because it was no longer dog-friendly. Disappointed, she went straight to Google in search of dog-friendly patios—but the results were pawful! As the search continued, she began to go mutts!

Disappointed by Google’s lack of information, she created a blog and social media account that featured all things dog-friendly. Eventually, thousands of local dog lovers followed her dog-friendly adventures, leading to Michelle's research at Rice University on "Dog Breed Discrimination: Are Certain Breeds Inherently Dangerous?" to her appearance on Great Day Houston and TLC.

The pawsitive feedback on her work and BYOD events was much greater than she anticipated. This sparked her creativity and inspired BYOD (Bring Your Own Dog) to officially launch on January 2018. Today, BYOD is the nation's leading membership community for responsible dog owners.

The purpose of BYOD is to promote responsible dog ownership, while being a trusted resource and social community for modern pet owners and dog-friendly brands.
