The BYOD (Bring Your Own Dog) vision is two-fold. BYOD connects dog-lovers to their city’s best dog-friendly businesses, events, and recreational activities. However, the core of our vision lies within our community. BYOD fosters a membership community dedicated to serving five purposes.
These purposes guide our actions and include:
Responsible Dog Ownership
Supporting Local Businesses
Building Dog and Human Relationships
Spreading Canine Awareness
The BYOD story began in Houston, Texas when Michelle and her Shetland Sheepdog, Lily, were asked to leave a restaurant because the patio was no longer dog-friendly. Disappointed, Michelle went straight to Google in search of dog-friendly patios—but the results were pawful, especially in 2014. As the search continued, she began to go mutts! Disappointed by Google’s lack of information, she created a blog and social media account that featured all things dog-friendly in Houston.
Eventually, thousands of Houstonains followed her dog-friendly adventures. The pawsitive feedback on her work and BYOD events have been much greater than she anticipated. This sparked her creativity and inspired the BYOD mission: furwell digging for dog-friendly businesses that reward dogs and their responsible owners—BYOD is here!
Today, Michelle and her pack are on a mission to make BYOD known as the happiest, dog-loving community known nationwide.
